The Sermon Review is proud to announce its call for sermons. We encourage Divinity and Seminary students across the country to submit their written sermon for publication.
Criteria:
Full time Master of Divinity candidates in their first, second, or third year.
(we will also consider those students who have graduated within the past year)
Students with an express interest in going into the Academy or the Ministry.
We prefer those students who have had at least a semester of experience with Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Biblical French, German, or Spanish (although not required).
no older than thirty-five years old
What to submit:
1. Submit your sermon via email to Jason.C.Allen@post.harvard.edu
2. A cover page with your name, year, school, title of your sermon, and page numbers (no more than 10 pages).
3. The sermon should be 12 point font, double spaced, times new roman.
4. We expect footnote citations according to Chicago style. So if you are citing the NRSV, use Chicago style for citing the NRSV.
Deadlines:
The first collection of Sermons is due on December 28th. (We expect that you have already been writing sermons--so revise an old one. Or if you have time, you can write a new one but you have a limited amount of time to do it.
Final Deadline
Final Deadline for all sermons is January 18th.
We are hoping to have 10 to 12 good sermons in our initial book.
What we consider
Diversity of thought
New ideas (do you have an idea about a passage that hasn't been taught?)
Solid Prose
Contemporary Relevance
Notification
1. After all submissions are received, we will notify everyone as to whether they have been selected for publication. If you are selected, we will talk about editing your work, if any are necessary.
The goal of the Sermon Review is to encourage Divinity and Seminary students to enhance their skills as writers and preachers. Good luck and we look forward to hearing from you.
